Whosoever heareth these sayings of mine,

and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise

man, which built his house upon a rock:

And the rain descended, and the floods came,

and the winds blew, and beat upon that house;

and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. (Matthew 7:24-25)

(Matthew 7:24-25)

It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every

word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Matthew 4:4)

Whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man,

it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against

the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in

this world, neither in the world to come. (Matthew 12:32)

By thy words thou shalt be justified, and by

thy words thou shalt be condemned. (Matthew 12:37)

Everyone that heareth these sayings of mine,

and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a

And the rain descended, and the floods came,

and the winds blew, and beat upon that house;

The Word proves

those first hearing it

as numb to understanding

as the ones who have not heard.

Yet all things flow from the Word.

Some, blundering

with what I set before you,

try in vain with empty talk

to separate the essences of things

and say how each thing truly is.

And all the rest make no attempt.

They no more see

how they behave broad waking

than remember clearly

what they did asleep.

(Heraclitus, Fragments)

Whoever cannot seek

the unforeseen sees nothing,

for the known way

is an impasse.

(Heraclitus, Fragments)

By cosmic rule,

as day yields night,

so winter summer,

war peace, plenty famine.

All things change.

Fire penetrates the lump

of myrrh, until the joining

bodies die and rise again

in smoke called incense.

(Heraclitus, Fragments)

The sea is both pure

and tainted, healthy

and good haven to the fish,

to men impotable and deadly.

For wisdom, listen

not to me but to the Word,

and know that all is one.

The oneness of all wisdom

may be found, or not,

under the name of God.

Applicants for wisdom

do what I have done:

inquire within.

The revenant keeps watch

over the dead and living.

(Heraclitus, Fragments)

The kingdom of heaven is like unto a net,

that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:

Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down,

and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

The kingdom of heaven is

like unto a net,

that was cast into the sea,

and gathered of every kind:

Which, when it was full, they

drew to shore, and sat down,

and gathered the good into

vessels, but cast the bad away.

So shall it be at the end of the world:

the angels shall come forth, and sever

the wicked from among the just,

And shall cast them into the furnace of fire:

there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Have ye understood these things?

So shall it be at the end of the world:

the angels shall come forth, and sever

the wicked from among the just,

And shall cast them into the furnace of fire:

there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Have ye understood these things?

Every scribe which is instructed unto the

kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that

is an householder, which bringeth forth out of

his treasure things new and old. (Matthew 13:47-52)

Every scribe which is instructed unto the

kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that

is an householder, which bringeth forth

out of his treasure things new and old.

(Matthew 13:47-52)

Verily I say unto you, This

generation shall not pass,

till all these things be fulfilled.

Heaven and earth shall pass

away, but my words shall not

pass away. (Matthew 24:34)

Verily I say unto you, This

generation shall not pass,

till all these things be fulfilled.

Heaven and earth shall pass

away, but my words shall not

pass away.

Our Home on the Sand

by Simon Drew

I am the eye that looks

out on THE ONE.

I am the mother who loves.

I am the child who is loved.

I am the father who protects.

I am they who are protected.

I am the sun that rises

and the stars and moon

that take its place

once the night has come.

I am the cloud that drifts.

I am the destination it drifts to,

and the path which it has

previously wandered.

A thin parchment is all

that separates high from low.

Upon this parchment

the Word is written.

People travel many miles

to sit upon the few feet

of sand that separate

land and sea.

They take the driftwood

that comes from far lands,

and upon the sand

they build their castles.

They know that their castles

will soon be swept away

by the evening tide.

They have always known.

But a home is a home.

This is their home.

Our home.

Each day we rebuild.

Each day we await

the judgement of night.

Until then, we sing,

we write, we speak,

we dream, we dance,

we play, we love,

we are loved.

We cry, we are heartbroken,

we are lonely,

we are betrayed, we betray,

and we are dragged into

the depths by the waves that grasp.

This is our home on the sand.

We like it here.

Thank You for Listening

Our Home on the Sand is the result of a priorly conceived idea meeting with a moment of insight, as well as some thoroughly enjoyed procrastination (which is often put to good use). The image on the album cover shows a marvelous driftwood hut that Jennifer and I found when we passed through Hungry Heads in New South Wales. The photos that serve as backdrops to the quotations and poems on this page were taken on a cloudy evening in our hometown of Mooloolaba, and the footage on the album video shows the sunset on that same evening. I hope that the music, footage, photography, quotes and poetry serve you well, both as individual elements and as a whole.
